Biostatistics

Course Description

This course focuses on providing Nursing Students the necessary fundamental knowledge, skills and understanding of Biostatistics and its application in health and health-related fields. It equips them how to gather, analyze, and assess data for nursing studies. It provides the basic framework for thinking about data and its relations and seeks to differentiate between correlation and causation to uncover the proper interpretation of data.

 Nursing Students will learn using appropriate choice of test statistics and methods of statistical analysis.  student will be able to acquire statistical skills for data analysis and contextual interpretation of statistical results effectively.

Health Sociology

This course provides students with a conceptual framework of sociology and its applications to different aspects of social life. Emphasis is applied on concepts related to rights/ rules issues and interpersonal relationships among health team and between the nurse and clients to enhance the development of positive attitudes towards nurses, health team and clients. It identifies the health and disease in a social context, explores their reflection on different individuals, groups and communities, and determines the role of community in the health services as well. This course enables students to identify, predict, criticize and respond to the health problems of the society.

     The course focuses on the fundamental principles of human nutrition and applied nutrition (curative). The importance and role of good nutrition in building the human body is emphasized. The students can offer nutritional care according to the category of clients.

Course Goals:

            After the Completion of the Course students should be able to:

·         Know the fundamental principles of human nutrition.

·         Identify the relationship between nutrition and body energy.

·         Recognize the specification and functions of different nutritional elements.

·         Understand the importance of applied nutrition (curative) as an essential part of the nursing care.

·         Assess types of nutrition according to the category of clients.

·         Assist in helping client adopt and enjoy eating the prescribed food.

Research Methods in Nursing

Course Description
The course focuses on the concept of nursing research and its process by highlighting problem identification, research design and sampling, data collection and analysis, interpretation of findings, ethical and legal issues, and finally protocol preparation. Furthermore, this course introduces students to clinical nursing research by reviewing, evaluating and critiquing current research studies which use a variety of designs. Throughout the course, an emphasis will be placed on the philosophical underpinnings of the quantitative and qualitative research paradigms as well as the use of research in nursing practice. Special attention will be given to develop the ability to criticize research studies in nursing and to the selection of a researchable problem and the development of a plan.
